Alex Domin has had a lifelong passion for the visual arts. He was admitted to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. However, he chose to pursue a career in dentistry. Over the years, he continued to work in various media including pastels, watercolors, oils and acrylics. His wife Shirley was an ardent promoter of local artists. It was during this period that he met practically every major Michigan artist.
These artists have played an influential role in Alex's artistic development: The late Ljubo Biro, Sister Matsusaki and Nora Mendoza. It was partially through the tutelage of Biro that he acquired the techniques and understanding of abstract painting. Since his retirement, he has returned to his first love--painting. Nora Mendoza encouraged Alex to exhibit his paintings, and did so in a special new exhibition from September 1 through November 28, 2005. His work features a colorful palette, a keen sense of composition and playful organic shapes.
Alex currently shares his time between Harper Woods, Michigan, and Leesburg, Florida.
